Explorer View slow in SharePoint 2010

I was working on a client site and trying to copy content across using windows explorer and it was PAINFULLY slow. It was taking in some cases 10 minutes to copy some folders ( don't ask about having folders in SP, I was just engaged as a technical consultant in this engagement )

Anyways by doing the following it fixed the issue:

1. In Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu, then click Internet Options.
2. Select the Connections tab.
3. Click the LAN Settings button.
4. Uncheck the “Automatically detect settings” box.

Ensure you advise the system admin about the change.
